Danny Hagen Announces Run for Skagit County Assessor
Danny Hagen, Skagit County’s Appraiser/Analyst, has announced that he is running for the office Skagit County Assessor. He is stepping up to fill the shoes of his department head and current Skagit County Assessor Dave Thomas, who is retiring. In addition to his seven years working in the Assessor’s Office, Danny is a highly engaged community volunteer, serving in leadership roles with several local organizations.
Danny’s roots in Skagit County run deep. He grew up in Bow Hill and La Conner, then finished high school in Edmonds. He attended California Lutheran University where he was a two-sport athlete in basketball and track and field while studying business administration. After college, he moved back to Skagit Valley and met his wife Nicole in 2012.
Since joining the Assessor’s Office in January of 2015, Danny has distinguished himself as a hard-working, knowledgeable, and approachable public servant.
“Danny Hagen possesses all the skills for the office of Assessor, most important of which is leadership,” says Dave Thomas.
Among his many professional accomplishments, he is a Professional Member of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), he has been published in the IAAO’s magazine, Fair & Equitable, and was a featured speaker at the GIS/CAMA conference in Portland. He has inspected and appraised more than 10,000 properties in Skagit County during his tenure.
A keen listener who cares deeply about Skagit County and all its residents, Danny is committed to making a positive contribution to the community. He is graduate and co-class speaker of Leadership Skagit Class of 2018 and has filled several key volunteer leadership roles for each graduating class since. He is an active Toastmaster and past president of Sedro Woolley Shine and Rise Toastmasters; sits on the Board of Directors for Chinook Enterprises, active on their Finance Committee; and is the treasurer of the La Conner Youth Soccer Association.
“It’s an exciting time for Skagit County and we need an Assessor who truly understands the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead,” said Danny. “Our residents deserve complete transparency, fairness, and professionalism in assessments. My seven years of experience in the Skagit County Assessor’s Office have more than prepared me to fulfill this vision. My commitment to this community will always guide me.”
Danny and his wife Nicole have four children, three boys and a baby girl, all under the ages of eight. When he’s not working or volunteering, Danny can be found on any of the incredible hiking trails found in the PNW. He still plays parks and rec basketball and enjoys coaching many of his kids’ sports teams.
